Biblical and personal qualities of an elder

As you consider nominating someone as an Elder, we pray that you do so prayerfully and with the following qualities in mind:

  • They should display the "Fruit of the Spirit" in their everyday lives (Galatians 5)
  • Their life should give evidence of discerning the Spirit's leading (Philippians 1:9-10)
  • They portray and advocate living a life of discipleship, a journey of sanctification (John 8:31-32)
  • They possess a servant's heart in loving, growing, and protecting the church (Isaiah 40:11)
  • They are and continue to grow in their spiritual maturity and understanding (Ephesians 4:11-16)
  • They lead with humility, submitting to Christ as Christ submitted to his Father's will (Mark 9:35)
  • They are prayerful, advocating for the needs of others (Philippians 4:6-7)
  • They seek to live a life of holiness, belonging to God before all things and inspiring others (Philippians 4:8)
  • They are committed to and actively involved in God's loving mission, locally and beyond (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • They exemplify a sacrificial life, offering themselves as living sacrifices for God's glory (Romans 12:1)
  • They lead a life of steadfast love and enduring faith (John 13:34 & 1 Corinthians 15:58)
